SURFACE TENSION
This experimental work consists of abstract, gestural prints created through manipulation of glass plates, carborundum grit and water, and then transmuted through solarplates, ink and paper. I have long been comfortable with ambiguity in my art. So it was inevitable that I would find my way from representational photography and printmaking to abstraction. I embrace both the thoughtful intent and the precariousness of the process. As Fritz Scholder once said, “an artist must walk the tightrope between accident and discipline.” Viewers of these images may see solar systems, trees, earth and water, protozoa, neurons. Or perhaps they will not perceive anything representational at all, but will bring their own ambiguities and make their own metaphors.
